Canada Road Safety Week is a collective effort by Canadian police services to aggressively enforce laws that govern the high risk behaviors of road users. The seven-day initiative, which includes the Victoria Day weekend, will run from Tuesday, May 14thuntil Monday, May 20thinclusive. RCMP members throughout the province will be conducting traffic stops and checkpoints throughout the week. As well, the general public will see an increased police presence on our roads and highways.

Policing efforts and enforcement will focus on:

  • Impaired driving (alcohol and drugs)
  • Seatbelt violations
  • Cell phone use and other handheld mobile devices (distracted driving)
  • Aggressive driving (speeding)
  • Intersection safety

***Remember, if you text while driving you are 23 times more likely to be involved in a crash or collision and 4-5 times more likely to be involved in a crash or collision while talking on a cell phone while driving***

RCMPNL asks motorists to obey posted speed limits, don't drive impaired and always wear your seatbelt while in a motor vehicle.
